Yesterday, Christina and I met up with accomplished composer and colleague of ours, Iván Enrique Rodríguez. JACOPERA met Iván this past winter at a Hello Stage networking holiday event on the Upper East Side. Hello Stage, founded by Bernhard Kerres, is the next big thing in classical music social media, and aims to connect classical musicians, ensembles, managers, promoters, and their fans. Looks like this is just another Hello Stage success story!
Christina, Iván, and I met at a dim lit little bar called The Winslow in the East Village to discuss very big plans. For our Milan debut in July, we will be premiering and commissioning a piece by Iván that will be written for three voices, piano, and violin with text by Julia de Burgos. We discussed our musical interests, our interpretations of what it means to be an artist, as well as technical things like range, tessitura, and recital programming. We had a splendid time catching up and are all extremely excited to work together and be part of a new musical creation. When discussing our musical ideologies Iván left us with a sensitive and inspiring quote. “Art should be personal, art should be human, and art should be sincere.” I believe Christina and I responded with both a “YASSSS” and an “Amen.” Be on the lookout for more to come from our collaboration and while you’re at it take a look at Iván’s website: http://www.ivanrodriguezmusic.com/home
